How Murder Brings Us Together: A Conversation with Nina Simon

Dear readers,

I am so excited to announce To the Lighthouse’s next author conversation:

HOW MURDER BRINGS US TOGETHER

An intimate conversation with Nina Simon

debut author of the bestseller and Reese’s Book Club pick

Mother-Daughter Murder Night

Sunday, January 21, 2024

6:00 - 7:30 pm PT

in person at The BookWorks bookstore, 667 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove, and via Zoom

Simon’s debut novel, Mother-Daughter Murder Night, is a big-hearted tale of three generations — a grandmother, a single mom, and a teenage daughter — brought together by illness and trying to cope with a new and fraught set of family dynamics. When a body is discovered in their small town, the trio’s amateur sleuthing brings them together. It’s a wonderfully engaging caper and an uplifting “love letter to strong women everywhere.”

Simon, who lives off the grid in the Santa Cruz mountains, has set her mystery-cum-family-reconciliation story in intimately familiar places to Monterey locals: the Elkhorn Slough and a fictionalized Moss Landing. The setting is deeply inhabited and fully realized, a special treat to folks like me who have kayaked the Slough and witnessed its importance as a feeder to the Monterey Bay.

Mother-Daughter Murder Night has already made a big splash nationally. It’s both a New York Times and LA Times bestseller, and it was selected as a Reese’s Book Club pick. I can’t wait to discuss this major debut novel with Simon!

The ticketed event is capped at 30 in-person participants, so I suggest registering early. You can purchase a single ticket that includes a signed copy of the book or purchase a ticket for two that includes one signed book. When you purchase a single ticket, you can specify whether you want to register to attend via Zoom; in that case, the book will be mailed to you.

As always, there will be time for your questions at the end of the conversation. I look forward to seeing you there!

Yours in all things literary,

Jennifer
